Community Organizer (part-time position)

JOB TITLE: Community Organizer

PAY RATE: $14.00 / hour

WORK SCHEDULE: 10-20 hours / week scheduled during the typical work week (Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:00).

OTHER INFORMATION: The position can start in January or early-February. It is available to either students or non-students. The duration is flexible and can last either one semester or be ongoing.

Organization Description:
• APAC is a statewide organization of manufactured (mobile) home park residents. Located in St. Paul, APAC focuses on resident education, leadership development, community organizing, and policy advocacy. The principle goal of APAC is to help residents develop the knowledge and skills for self-advocacy and community building. APAC works to improve the quality of life in park neighborhoods, protect and expand the rights of residents, preserve affordable housing, and promote safe, affordable, and stable communities.

Job Duties:
• Learn about the fundamentals of community organizing as you: help resident leaders to identify their issues and concerns; assist with outreach to park communities; recruit members; conduct community meetings and educational workshops; promote resident leadership opportunities; and network with other community organizations.

REQUIRED – Commitment to social and economic justice; strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to learn new subject areas; ability to work as part of a team or independently and to take direction; ability to organize tasks, manage time and prioritize projects; basic competency on personal computer systems; a valid drivers license; and ability to do some outdoor work.
PREFERRED (But not required) – Familiarity with housing issues in general or manufactured housing in particular; previous community organizing expierience; ability to speak Spanish.
